On March 20, Assumption College competed in this event at MSAC. It was a culmination of all the hard work put in throughout the season, with the early- morning training sessions and weekly Friday-afternoon trials. The team competed honourable, with some fantastic individual results, including Andrew Rice who was crowned the under-17, 50m freestyle champion. We congratulate Andrew as this is a fantastic achievement! While neither the boys nor the girls team moved from the bottom of the ladder, it was an enjoyable night, and a reward for a job well done.
Girls relay team invited to compete at international track classic
An U-17 girls relay team was selected to represent the AGSV at the 2015 Schools Relay Challenge at Albert Park last month.
The team consisted of Hayley Phillips, Natarsha Inchincoli, Gemma Whitty and Shannon McLean (pictured in that order). Their selection was based on their performance in the 2014 AGSV Carnival. This resulted in them being invited to compete in a field of eight schools from sporting competitions across Victoria. The girls ran exceptionally well, with clean baton changes. Their fourth placing set an Assumption record of 52.23. Well done, girls!
Marist Basketball Carnival
In the last week of first term we took 10 students from years 8-11 to the Marist Basketball Carnival in Perth. The girls had a fantastic time and were runners-up in the Plate cup division. A huge thank you to Michael Byrnes, a parent who coached the girls during the tournament.
Training for winter sport has begun. Parents, please make sure students attend training and are ready for the first Saturday games on May 2. Also, a netball coach is urgently needed for on one of our junior teams. If you'd like to take on the role, please email me.

ACK's golf team of Callan Stone, Mitchell Lewis and James Watt competed in the AGSV/APS/ Bas Golf Championships at Royal Melbourne on March 27. It is an honour to be picked to play at this prestigious course, and the boys didn’t let us down.
The team came fourth overall, which is an amazing effort considering this is the elite of school golf. In addition, Callan Stone shot an equal second-best score of 2 over par (74), only finishing behind Ryan Ruffles from Haileybury, who competed at last year’s Australian Open. He shot 3 under 69. Congratulations to the team.
Marist Basketball Carnival
In the last week of term 1, ACK sent a boys and girls team to the Marist Basketball Carnival at Newman College, Perth. A lot of development was shown by the team, and we saw some promising signs for the up and coming AGSV firsts seasons. Not only was the basketball of a high standard, our students formed relationships with other from across the country, something that not everyone gets to experience. The boys tournament MVP was captain Keenan Gorski. Their results are below.
ACK (20) vs Sacred Heart (75)
ACK (45) vs Trinity (36)
ACK (24) vs John Terry (38)
ACK (47) vs Mt Carmel (34)
ACK (51) vs St Gregory's (47)
ACK (18) vs Newman (46)
ACK (35) vs Trinity (22)
ACK (35) vs Newman (47)
Finally, a reminder that the first round of winter sport is on Saturday, May 2. Training has begun, and it is important that all students attend all sessions. Please check the website and twitter page for up-to-date match information and fixtures.
