AGSV representative trials

On July 27, the AGSV held their winter sport representative trials. First coaches were asked to nominate their best athletes to take part in the trials in the hope of being selected for the elite squad. We are very proud to have had a student selected in each sport:

Netball: Casey Adamson (captain) and Amelia Brock

Soccer: Sophie Atherden

Hockey: Elana Atherden

Basketball: Chloe Molloy

Congratulations to these girls. They will compete against the APS on August 8 at Wesley College, Glen Waverley.

Well done to Jake O’Brien and Ryan Townsend on their selection in the AGSV representative football team, which will take on the APS on August 8. Mitchell Trait and Nick Pupillo were named emergencies.

Jack Dodd will represent the AGSV in basketball. Good luck boys.

Year 10 student Joel Vella has been names in the School Sports Victoria state softball team. This is a fantastic achievement, being selected over many students from across the state. We wish Joel all the best.

The boys AGSV winter season is over. The boys in all teams tasted success and everyone showed improvement.

Congratulations to the Seconds and Intermediate A football teams, which finished the season on top of the ladder. The First XVIII narrowly missed out on a spot in the grand final by less than 4 percentage points.

A huge thank you to the parents and volunteers who helped out during the season. Without you, we would not have such a strong sporting program.

We now move on to the spring season which, for ACK, means athletics. Training is held every Tuesday after school at Meadowglen Athletics Stadium, Epping. Students are bussed down at lunchtime, and return by 5pm. If you are interested in joining the team, please email alex.timms@assumption.vic.edu.au or jade.rose@assumption.vic.edu.au

A first for Assumption - winter tennis

The winter tennis team has enjoyed great success.  While it is unusual for ACK to succeed on a tennis court, the winter season is more a “boutique” activity: one’s manners and enjoyment are more on display than one’s tennis or athletic ability.

The Assumption boys had wins against most teams including Melbourne Grammar, Xavier and Trinity.  While our decision to participate next year will be driven by the number of players available, this year we have had great fun and developed some much needed team spirit.

Our lunchtime training has become popular, not just because it gets you out of the cold Kilmore winter but also because hitting balls at a designated target and using the college's ball machine allows students to develop their skills in time that would be otherwise spent achieving little.

A big thanks to Alex Timms for his support of winter tennis, and a big thanks to the college for supporting the team.  Unfortunately the ball machine lost the ballot for captaincy but has indicated its intention to apply again next year.
