30 July 2015
The online application process for year 12 students wanting to apply for tertiary courses in 2016 is open until September 30. Students need to register their details and indicate which courses, in preference order, they wish to do. The website is www.vtac.edu.au I have held one information session about this process, and a second one will be held in the next week.
NOTE: If you plan to apply for a course involving an interview/folio presentation/audition as part of the selection process, attendance is a must. You might be asked what you learned on open day.
Students and parents who wish to meet Mrs Fisher or me need to book an interview by filling out the booking sheets on our office doors.
La Trobe’s VCE Plus Program
High achieving and very organised year 11 students might like to consider adding two university subjects to their year 12 program in 2016. VCE Plus allows students to challenge themselves by doing a university subject in each semester while completing four VCE subjects. These subjects have been approved by VCAA and, therefore, will contribute to a student’s ATAR by a 10% increment depending on results. Information brochures and application forms are outside my office.
Alix Austin from La Trobe University will be in our library on Monday, August 3 from 10am-2.30pm to answer any questions about this program or any question about La Trobe in general.
Scholarships for year 12 students in 2016
Year 12 students planning tertiary education in 2016 should be aware of scholarship opportunities. A good starting point to find out about them is go to the VTAC website and search scholarships at the top of the screen. You can apply for many of the available scholarships on the VTAC site, often awarded on the basis of your ATAR. However, some scholarships require an application. To find these, go to the individual institution websites. Many scholarships are offered on the basis of equity issues, not only because of academic performance.
I will go through scholarship application and SEAS application with the year 12s over the next few weeks during the RE seminar sessions.
Early entry programs
ACK students can apply to La Trobe, ACU and VU’s early entry programs.
In each case the institution wants to know more about students as it recognise that students are more than their ATARs. They want to know about leadership, volunteer work in a local cultural, sporting or religious group etc.
La Trobe’s Aspire Program closes on August 31, 2015.
ACU's Early Achievers Program opens on August 10 and closes on October 19, 2015.
VU’s Partnership Portfolio Program is completed as part of the VTAC application process and closes on October 6, 2015.
Further information can be found on the institutions' websites.
I have emailed year 10-12 students open day dates and times. These details are also on the Career Library Page
Open days are invaluable for students to learn about an institution, costs of a course and possible pathways to get into a chosen course if the necessary ATAR is not achieved. They also give them the chance to gain information about such things as distance from home and if too far away alternative study options.
