Year 8 students reflect on the goodness in our world

30 July 2015

Towards the end of last term,  8F began a new unit in religious education titled Good vs Evil.

To help students understand this concept, we firstly looked at a scriptural reference, John 10:10: A thief comes only to kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life. I want them to have it in the fullest possible way’.

Students were asked to pick this sentence apart and analyse its true meaning. They then developed a mind map of the ‘goodness’ in their lives, before looking for images, words, sayings, pictures, quotes, videos and anything else that reminded them of what is good in our world; something which we can forget about sometimes.

Students enjoyed working in small groups to produce their goodness-in-our-world collages, on display in our classroom during this unit.

I encourage you to talk with your son or daughter about what they perceived as ‘good’ in our world, as I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised, as I was,  at the maturity of their responses.
