I'm Kaitlin Lynch, and I graduated from Assumption College in 2013. While at ACK I completed my Certificate III in Children's Services, then worked at a childcare centre for about a year.
For as long as I can remember I have been interested in travelling and becoming a nanny. I am a live-in au pair which is similar to a nanny, the only difference is that the au pair experience is more of a cultural exchange as well as looking after children.
I am living in a small town in Canada, Port Moody, an hour from downtown Vancouver. I arrived in Canada in May, 2015 and am coming home next August. I am a live-in au pair. The child I look after, Sonja, has just turned two, and I live with her parents, Tara and Thomas. Tara is expecting another baby in the new year so I will soon be living and working with a newborn.
My host family are absolutely amazing. They were so welcoming and amaze me with how kind they are. They welcomed a stranger into their home to care for their child. I can only imagine how hard that would be to do and I'm so grateful that they gave me this opportunity.
They have showed me around and taken me to some really cool, unforgettable places. I couldn't have asked for a better host family. I never would have thought that I would have left home, let alone be living in another country by the time I turned 20, but I'm so glad that I took a step out of my comfort zone and travelled across the world to do what I love.
This has been such an incredible experience and I would encourage anyone who has ever thought about nannying or is interested in working with kids to give it a go.
