Girls sport

Saturday, February 7

We had mixed results from our teams as they resumed for the season. Our Firsts softball lost their game against Ivanhoe even though they had a strong start to the match. Our junior softball team won their game against Geelong College. They displayed great skills and knowledge in their first game for ACK as most of the team were made up of year 7s.

Our Seconds volleyball team won their game against PEGS three sets to love playing at Kew High School. Our Firsts tennis lost their home match against Peninsula, while our junior and inter B teams each enjoyed a win.

Congratulations to our 2015 Sports Captain Casey Adamson who has been selected to represent Victoria in the national netball competition for the third year in a row.

Saturday, February 14

Only two games went ahead on Valentine's Day due to the rain washing out most of our opponents' facilities. Our Firsts softball team played at home against Caulfield Grammar and were off to a great start. Unfortunately, Caulfield pulled away in the later innings and won 15 to 6.

Our Firsts tennis team eventually played against Haileybury although, due to the weather, they were off to a late start and unfortunately lost 21-0.

As our netball trials start next week, we are looking for umpires to work on Saturdays at ACK umpiring our home matches. Please email me if you are interested.

Boys sport

The boys had a tough opening round of sport for 2015, with losses to Marcellin across the board in firsts cricket, basketball and tennis. Congratulations to First XI captain Jack O'Sullivan, on a well-comprised half century. Number one ranked tennis player, Travis Wilkie, also had a memorable day, winning his set against the opposing number one.

There were some promising results in other grades, with the thirds tennis and basketball teams coming home victorious. The year 9 cricket team had a narrow loss, with a result decided on the very last ball of the day. We encourage you to come along and support the dark and light blues.

On Valentine's Day, most ACK sport, apart from firsts matches, was washed out due to heavy rain. While competitive, the tennis team was defeated, however, the Firsts basketball team won a thriller against Yarra Valley 43-41. The Firsts cricket team had an equally thrilling result, defeating Yarra Valley by one wicket in the final over.

The weather

If the weather looks as if it is going to be extremely hot or wet, there are some protocols to be followed.

  • For training sessions, a decision will be made on the day. If they need to be cancelled, every attempt will be made to have an announcement put over the PA by lunchtime, and an updated message put on the College website (under Sports Fixtures).
  • On Saturdays, a decision will be made in the morning, before games starts. If they need to be cancelled, a message will be put on the College website (under Sports Fixtures) ASAP, and the coach will try to make contact withplayers.

Please do not assume that anything is called off. If you haven't heard anything to the contrary, please show up at your required venue as scheduled. For the most up-to-date information, please check the College website.

Twitter

Assumption has a dedicated ACK Sport Twitter page. We will keep you up to date with all the latest scores and any potential cancellations (training or game day). Please follow and spread the word @ACK_Sport (https://twitter.com/ack_sport)
