Overview of the Year 7-8 curriculum
Assumption’s vision is aligned with that of the Victorian Curriculum where the focus at Years 7 and 8 is on a course that offers breadth and balance across all learning areas. Year 7 and 8 is a two-year program that exposes students to a wide range of subjects that provide a wide variety of engaging learning experiences over this period. These experiences enable students to select subjects throughout Year 9 and 10 when they have significantly more choice in their subject selections.
Subjects studied in both years:
Design Technologies (Wood, Food, Metal and Textiles)
Health & Physical Education
Languages (both French and Italian at Year 7 and students choose one for Year 8)
Performing Arts (Drama, Dance and Music)
Visual Arts (Studio Art, Media and Visual Communication Design)
Overview of the Year 9-10 curriculum
At Years, 9 and 10 the focus is on pathways and choice. This enables students to have greater autonomy and choice in their own education and creates individualised pathway creation as students’ head towards the senior school.
Core subjects include:
English (Year 9 and 10)
Mathematics (Year 9 and 10)
Health & Physical Education (Year 9)
Humanities (Year 9)
Religious Education (Years 9 and 10)
Science (Year 9)
Vocational Pathways (Year 9)
In addition to the core subjects that students will study throughout Years 9 and 10, there is a high degree of choice to enable students to create their own learning programs. Students can select eight semester-based electives in Year 9 and another eight semester-based electives in Year 10. Assumption College is determined to promote student engagement and learning throughout these years by providing student choice.
Overview of the Years 11 and 12 program
Students in the senior year levels can study for one of two senior certificates: the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). Within these, students can also complete units in Vocational Educational and Training (VET) or be part of a school-based apprenticeship (SBAT).
