ACK sport

17 November 2016

Three students recently represented Assumption College at the Victorian All-Schools Athletics Championships. Hayley Philips finished 4th in the high jump and Oliva Attard competed in the 400m. Ryan Blair, in year 8, won the U-14 discus and shotput. This outstanding performance qualifies him as a member of the Victorian team to compete in the Australian All-Schools Championships in December as well as the National Junior Championships in March.

And we recently hosted our annual cricket match between the ACK First XI and a Victoria Police XI. After an extremely wet spring, ground-staff had the ground in pristine condition. The Victoria Police XI chose to bat and were in trouble early due to tight bowling. At 5/92 ACK were well on top. However a steady rebuild followed by some lusty hitting from the police middle order saw them post a competitive score of 7/205 from their 45 overs. Best of the ACK bowlers were Ben Radford (3/30 off 10 overs) and Liam Monaghan (1/9 off 6 overs).

The ACK chase began promisingly despite the loss of an early wicket and at 1/48 were well on track. A steady fall of wickets from then on and the lack of a substantial partnership saw the ACK innings in decline and they were eventually dismissed for 100. Kobi Howes was the best of the batsmen with 22. Click on the photos at bottom of page to see some of the action from the match.

Despite the loss, the boys gained some valuable match practice.
