Neale Daniher AM is a finalist in the Victorian Australian of the Year. The Victorian winners will be announced on November 16, with the national awards held on January 25.
Neale has helped raise millions of dollars for Motor Neurone Disease research since he was diagnosed with the debilitating disease three years ago.
He told the Herald Sun that he was honoured by the nomination, but sought attention only for the cause. “Our main game is to find a cure for this disease, and that will always be the main game,” he said.
Neale was named as a Member of the Order of Australia in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours List for “significant service to community health through support for people with Motor Neurone Disease and their families, and to Australian rules football".
