Tonya Frost, from our pathways team, recently interviewed year 12 student Dionne Mancuso about her school-based apprenticeship at Quality Kids Childcare in Wallan.
Dionne’s favourite thing about her SBAT is working with children with a diverse range of ages. And she has enjoyed seeing the children grow over the 18 months she has worked there.
"Doing this SBAT has helped me realise that I would like a career in primary teaching. I really enjoy teaching and watching the children develop," she said.
The only negatives she believes about the industry are the long hours and ordinary pay.
"I'd give the course a nine out of 10 and think that others should complete an SBA while at school. Starting an apprenticeship in year 10 is ideal because you can have your qualification finished by the start of year 12," she said.
Dionne believes that going to work once a week has been a good distraction when school gets tense or stressful, and she feels that doing this apprenticeship has forced her to become organised, which has helped her with her year 12 studies.
