Jessica hopes to be a paramedic

8 June 2017

In the second of our interviews with VET students, VET guru Tonya Frost caught up with year 10 student Jessica Parker.

What VET course are you doing this year?jess

Cert III in Allied Health Assistance.

What is your favourite thing about the course?

I really enjoy the pracs we do, for example using harnesses to lift and move people and the blood pressure monitoring equipment.

Is there anything you don’t like about it?

Even though I know they are a vital part of the course and keeping safe, I find the OH&S and theory classes a bit boring.

Do you think you will continue in this field after completing year 12?

Yes, I will definitely aim to work in the medical field when graduating in year 12. Ideally, I would really love to go to uni to study paramedicine.

If you could give some advice to anyone thinking about completing this course next year, what would it be?

I would definitely tell them to make sure they listen carefully in class and keep up with their bookwork.

If you could change anything about this course, what would you change?

I would change its structure. I would like to evenly split our time every week between prac and theory more evenly. At the moment we do more theory than prac.

Out of 10 what would you rate this course?

Seven out of 10.
