Dear Parents, Guardians and friends of Assumption,
This sell-out event in the Marlhes Restaurant last Wednesday was a huge success. While enjoyed one another’s company we raised funds for the McGrath Foundation and were fed and waited on by our wonderful VET hospitality and events students and staff.
The quality of food and drink was exceptional, as was the quality of the talk by our guest speaker Sarah Locke. Sarah, a mother of two of our students, shared her story of her battle with cancer. Sarah highlighted the care she has been given by her family and an array of medical professionals. In particular Sarah highlighted the great work of the McGrath foundation and its support provided to sufferers of breast cancer https://www.mcgrathfoundation.com.au/Default.aspx
We thank Sarah for telling us about her courageous journey and raising awareness around breast cancer and the foundation.
Over the last fortnight there has been considerable media coverage of the federal government’s latest school funding proposal and its negative effect on Catholic schools. Catholic Education Melbourne and the National Catholic Education Commission are concerned about the lack of consultation regarding the future funding of Catholic education. I will give you more information as comes to hand.
A lot is happening at ACK next week starting with the year 7, 2019 parent information evening on Wednesday at 7pm in the Heinrich Centre. The junior production team will present Disney’s Mulan in the college theatre on Thursday with performances at 4.30pm and also 7pm. The next night the senior production team present Sequinned Suits and Platform Boots also in the college theatre. This is the tale of a young boy's simultaneous efforts to be a rock star and to woo local girl Lorraine Izoff. The boy, Shakey Threwer, is guided by a mystical superhero called The Blockbuster. The show features a glam rock soundtrack with songs from the likes of David Bowie, the Monkeys and Alice Cooper. This year's senior production is a little different with it being entirely put together by the senior students themselves. The cast and crew have been working very hard to make sure it is an amazing show. There will be two performances at 4.30pm and 7pm.
On behalf of all of us at Assumption, I wish our mothers all the best for Mother’s Day on Sunday. I share with you a prayer that was used this morning in our learning mentor groups.
Loving God, we thank you for mothers – for all they mean or have meant, for the love they have shown and the care they have given. We thank you for the qualities of mothers – their patience, their kindness, concern and understanding. We thank you for the part they play in our lives, and we thank you for this day of saying ‘thank you’ this opportunity to say what we so often mean to say but so rarely do. For mothers and motherhood, for children and families we bring you this day our grateful praise. Amen.
