Girls sport

Last Saturday marked the last round of sport for all teams with the exception of our firsts teams this weekend. Our Thirds softball team were very excited about their win over Yarra Valley at home, with the final score 14-8; a great result for their end-of-season match. The Firsts softball team are on a winning streak with a strong win over Carey, the final score being 10-6. Their fielding was excellent working as a team to catch fly balls and tag out runners.

Our Seconds volleyball players defeated Carey, along with our inter B and Junior C teams who were also successful in their final matches. Our thirds had a close match against PEGS although losing two sets to one.

The firsts tennis team had a draw against Yarra Valley. Both teams ended with the score of 8 sets with 92 games each. Our Seconds team, mostly made up of year 12s, enjoyed their last match for the college but, unfortunately, lost to Wesley. Our Inter B tennis team had a win over Caulfield, and the Junior Cs lost their home match to PEGS.

Well done to our girls this season, and I hope to see you back in fourth term.

Boys sport

The boys summer season is over. In the final round on March 14 our First XI cricket team went down to PEGS in a T20 match, while the firsts tennis and basketball teams finished their season before the Labour Day long weekend. Thank you to all parents, students and coaches who made the season so successful. Congratulations to Jack O’Sullivan (cricket) and Jack Dodd (basketball) who made the AGSV representative teams. The cricket will be played on Tuesday, March 24, and the basketball will be played at a later date.

Three of ACK’s finest golfers, Callan Stone, Mitchell Lewis and James Watt, will represent the college in the AGSV Golf Championships at Royal Melbourne on Friday, March 27. We wish them the best of luck.

We now move into the winter season. Some teams will begin training in the final week of term 1, while the remainder will begin in the first week of term 2. The training schedule will be posted on the college’s website shortly. Training is a vital component of any sport, so it is important that every student attends every training session (or contact the coach beforehand, informing them why you cannot). The first AGSV round is on Saturday May 2. Please ensure that you are ready to go, including having all necessary equipment, and checking which team you are in.

Finally, a plug for our Sports Fixtures page on the college website, and out twitter page @ack_sport. These two outlets are the main form of communication, and if there are any last-minute cancellations to training etc., they are posted here. The website will also have information updated weekly with details for the coming Saturday’s matches. Please regularly check the website and/or twitter page for the most up-to-date information.
