It's all happening in VCAL

19 March 2015

Year 11

Year 11s visited the Grand Prix track last week and explored the maths of cars. Students had to work out the consumption rate of fuel needed for the cars to finish. They looked at lap times – Average speed, fastest lap times, practice laps versus race times.

In the coming months, as part of their religious education studies, students are off to St Patrick’s Cathedral (where they'll attend an Easter liturgy), the Islamic Museum of Australia, Quang Duc Buddhist Monastery and the Craigieburn Sikh Temple.

In personal development skills and work related skills classes they have been looking at leadership by making documentaries. Lachlan Cottrell and Daniel Callinan interviewed Miss Fogarty about her views on the subject (click on photo below). There are also documentaries on inspiring leadership speeches and another one on Julius Caesar.

And Mrs Pendlebury has asked if anyone has scrap material (she needs about 50 cm²) to donate for a maths project next term.

Year 12

Year 12 students recently obtained their first aid certificates after a day of training. The half mannequins used for CPR practice were given a good work out by Brylee Burrell, Tom Green and James Stewart (see below).

Students are still busy organising Assumption's next Relay for Life on May 1. Please support this day by donating or participating (via trybooking).  Every little bit helps and the students are determined to beat last year’s total of $5250. The new Relay for Life shirts look great as modelled by Shayla Spiteri, Alannah Harrington and Greg White (click on photo below).

Preparations for our VCAL presentation night later in the year are well underway, and many other projects will be announced in the coming weeks. A VCAL leadership day has been organised for the students in May and will incorporate activities based around not only leadership, but problem solving, teamwork and initiative.
