During start your new classes (SYNC) week, 20 new VCAL students were welcomed into the program and they began working straight away.
On Monday, students hosted guests from Kilmore Men’s Shed to say thank you for the work they helped with in the VCAL program this year and wished them all the best for Christmas.
On Tuesday, the students, Ms Bryar, Mr Gilchrist and I went to Campaspe Downs for a day of teamwork and get-to-know you activities. Students participated in initiative activities, completed a low rope course (congratulations to Daniel Archer for completing the course without stopping), tested their fear of heights on the giant swing and finished the day canoeing on the lake. We had a great day. (Click on the photos below for a glimpse of the action.)
On Wednesday, students completed an orientation session at their new TAFEs. They needed to arrive on time, find their way around the venues to the correct meeting area and after getting all the details about their course find their way home. A couple of students had a rough morning getting lost on Melbourne’s trams but all said that it was worthwhile as they know where to go for day one next year.
On Thursday and Friday the students were back at school meeting teachers and planning events for next year, including initial preparations for the Relay for Life in first term.
Students have work to do in all subjects before they return next year. If for some reason students have lost their work or were absent then they can find the tasks on the following link: Simon - Resources - Knowledge Banks - (Student) - SYNC Program - VCAL
If you've ever wanted to know what VCAL is about look at the film that year 11 students made in VCAL Media this year with the help of their teacher Mr Glenn Solomons. We were impressed and we hope you are too.
Jess Flavell and I wish students and their parents all the very best for the holidays. May you remain safe and have a happy and holy Christmas.
