Preparing for our next Relay for Life

19 February 2015

Year 12 VCAL students have started the year with some exciting activities on the agenda. Following the success of last year's Relay for Life, planning is underway for this year's event to be held at ACK on Friday, April 24.

Preparations are also underway for first aid, responsible service of alcohol and food handlers certificates for year 12s as well as the annual VCAL presentation night at the end of the year.

In VCAL numeracy, students have been designing their own dream amusement park and making scale models, in this case a cake (pictured below) made by Alannah Harrington, Emily Martin and Adam Smith.

Congratulations to Greg White, for being named Applied Learning Leader for 2015. This is a great honour and we look forward to his input, reports and leadership.

Year 11 VCAL students have been introduced to their first-semester program for personal-development skills (PDS). They had to apply (as for employment) for one of two programs:

  • Cancer Council Australian with Ms Campbell, where they hope to raise funds to help beat cancer and raise awareness of the disease, by hosting the world’s biggest morning tea among other activities;
  • Country Fire Authority, a joint program with the Kilmore CFA, with students learning about fire prevention and awareness, and volunteerism.

In numeracy, they have an exciting excursion to a major world event coming up. More details will be revealed soon.

In religious education, they have been exploring why humans worship, and later this term will be visiting sites of worship across Melbourne.

I thank those parents that attended the recent year 12 information night and remind those with children in year 11 that an information night for this year level is being held tonight at 7pm in the Heinrich Centre.

I also remind parents and students that no VCAL students should be wearing PE uniform, the exception being year 12 students that have been told to do so by either their PE or VET Sport and Recreation teachers.
