 Tuning Into Teens

 tintot v3

The Assumption College Wellness Centre staff is proud to initiate the return of the Tuning Into Teens program for parents and carers of students at the College.

Tuning Into Teens is a highly successful, evidence based program which promotes emotionally intelligent parenting; raising self-disciplined, responsible and socially skilled children that can utilise the skills of emotional competence throughout their lifetime.

In 2019 the College is proud to offer Assumption parents, carers and guardians the Tuning Into Teens Whole School Approach program of three seminars that is aimed at helping carers develop skills that will assist your child to:

•          develop greater emotional intelligence

•          be more aware of, and empowered in, situations of peer pressure

•          be better able to cope with anger, anxiety and other strong emotions and

•          improve communication with parents and reduce family conflict.

The seminars are free and parents/carers should attend all three sessions. These will be held on Monday, 29 April, 13 May and 5 August 2019 from 6-8pm at the College.

These are presented by Dr Christiane Kehoe, from the University of Melbourne’s Training and Research in Developmental Health, and co-author and project manager of Tuning Into Teens, a provider of certified training nationally and internationally.

Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognise, understand and manage your emotions as well as being able to communicate to others how you feel. Research has found that parenting plays a major role in an adolescent’s emotional intelligence.

Adolescents with good emotional intelligence often have better emotional, social and physical functioning, as well as fewer behavioural difficulties. The Tuning Into Teens Whole School Approach aims to teach students, parents and teachers a communication style that has been found optimal for adolescent emotional development.

Bookings are essential. With 150 places available, please register your interest ASAP at www.trybooking.com/BBLMQ. Cut off date for booking is Tuesday, 23 April 2019.

Seminars will be held in the Heinrich Building, room 660 with a light supper supplied each evening.

Please contact the Wellbeing Services Leader Leonie Farrugia on 5783 5000 with any queries.
