The AGSV Centenary

A Century of Athletic Achievement

Celebrating the AGSV Centenary

This year marks a century of AGSV competition! Celebrations began last spring during the AGSV Athletics Championships at Lakeside Stadium on the 11th of September 2019. Now, as schools commence the first term of 2020, young athletes are preparing for the incredible matches to come.

The AGSV Centenary flag will visit each of the nine participating schools, and is currently flying above the Carroll Oval at Assumption College! The flag’s journey will end at Lakeside Stadium on Saturday, the 5th of September 2020 for the 100th AGSV Boys Athletics Championship.

The AGSV was established in 1920 to promote sporting culture in exemplary Victorian schools. Today, there are over 11,000 students competing in AGSV events each year. The nine participating schools are:

  • Assumption College
  • Camberwell Grammar
  • Ivanhoe Grammar
  • Marcellin College
  • Mentone Grammar
  • Peninsula Grammar
  • Penleigh and Essendon Grammar
  • Trinity Grammar
  • Yarra Valley Grammar

Assumption College is proud to be a part of this vital sporting tradition. Our students have competed as athletes of an AGSV member school since 1958, joining in the same year as Essendon Grammar and Mentone Grammar.

On Wednesday, the 25th of February 2020, our students will travel to Camberwell Grammar School to hand over the AGSV Centenary flag – a symbol of competition, achievement and fellowship.
